British-born Cecil King was best known for his naval paintings, but also painted landscapes and designed a few posters. Here, he depicts the Sandbanks Pavilion (built in 1928) and an array of people, abustle with summer activity, delighting in all the pleasures of Britain's southern coast. Poole, the Dorset seaport situated next to Bournemouth, served as one of the primary Allied locations during the Second World War to launch the D-Day attacks. Previously unrecorded at auction.
