CELESTINO PIATTI (1922- ) BELL.
50 1/4x35 5/8 inches. Druck VSK, Basel.
Condition A-: repaired minor tears at edges.
Piatti was a generalist who was involved in all aspects of graphic design. He studied at the Kunstgewerbe Schule in Zurich and then moved to Basel (1944-47), where he was exposed to the "magic realism" of Fritz Bühler, for whom he worked as an assistant. In 1948 he opened his own studio, and began to discover his own style, with strong colors and broad black outlining. This poster is atypical of his work, belonging more to the school of visual gags. Nonetheless it is delightful, integrating photography with graphics in a strong, humorous yet minimalist approach. The happy face, simply composed of a sausage for a smile, a red line and the company's name, becomes a brilliant exercise in visual communication. Le Coultre p. 347.
