Hohenstein did several posters for electricity and lightbulbs, a subject that clearly inspired him. Here he uses one of his favorite graphic tricks: a cut-out type frame that houses the typography, through which can be seen one of the allegorical women who populate so many of his images. The dramatic effects of light and dark, while not unusual in Hohenstein's posters, takes on an added significance because this poster advertises a light source! Along the right side of the image he dangles an Art Nouveau strand of bulbs and wires. A classic example of Hohenstein's exuberant, yet always efficient style. Menegazzi p. 161 no. 337 (although he dates this piece 1889, for stylistic reasons he is obviously wrong, a misprint that should read 1899).
