CHARLES ALSTON (1907 - 1977)
Deserted House.

Lithograph, circa 1938. 283x387 mm; 11 1/8x15 1/4 inches, wide (full ?) margins. Signed and titled in pencil, lower margin.

Illustrated: an impression from the Reba and Dave Williams Collection in Alone in a Crowd, p. 14, pl. 9, and African-American Artists, 1929-1945, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, p. 39.

A very good, dark impression of this very scarce print. According to Lisa Gail Collins in the latter catalogue, this lithograph was "created soon after Alston returned from a long investigative journey through the Deep South with a Farm Security Administration (FSA) inspector." Messinger/Collins p. 39.
