Condition A: repaired tear in lower left edge. Framed.
Johnson was a famous jazz pianist who settled in Paris in the late-1920s. He performed in France with numerous other notable jazz musicians, such as Freddy Taylor and Arthur Briggs, with whom he recorded several tracks on Brunswick Records along with the Harlemites. In the mid-1930s, he relocated to Amsterdam and continued performing. He was arrested by the Nazis in 1941 and was interred through 1944, at which time he returned to America.
