CHARLES E. TURNER (1883-1965) "BRITANNIC" CUNARD / THE LIVERPOOL ROUTE TO U.S.A. AND CANADA. Circa 1950. 38 1/4x23 1/4 inches, 97 1/4x59 cm. Condition A / A-: sharp crease and small errant marks in right image. Paper. Framed. Turner designed a number of posters for Cunard over the decades, as well as a series of propaganda posters during WWII. Turner served in the RAF during the First World War, and some of his earliest posters for the London Underground reflect his aeronautic experience. The Britannic was built for the White Star Line in 1930. The company merged with Cunard in 1934, becoming the Cunard White Star Line, and then in 1950 the name shortened to Cunard. The Britannic was one of only two vessels that survived the initial merger, but she continued to fly the flags of both companies.
