CHARLES GESMAR MISTINGUETT. 1928.
123 3/4x44 1/4 inches. H. Chachoin, Paris.
Condition B: minor losses, tears, creases and staining in margins and image; vertical and horizontal folds.
In a smoke-like swirl of pink feathers (that were to Art Deco what Alphonse Mucha's decorative halos were to Art Nouveau), emerge two of the cabaret star Mistinguett's most popular personas: the little tramp in patched purple and brown clothes and the tall, sophisticated performer bedecked in a necklace and skirt made of colorful jewels. Commonly referred to as "Rags to Riches," this poster charmingly captures two of the many faces of Mistinguett.
