CHARLES KUHN (1903-1999) TELEPHONE INTERNATIONALE. Circa 1938.
50x351/2 inches. Wolfsberg, Zurich.
Condition A-: creases in margins; pinholes in corners. Paper.
Trained as an apprentice in the Wolfsberg printing plant, Kuhn went on to open his own graphic design studio. He was very active during the 1940s and won several awards for his work, including this campaign for the Swiss Telephone Company. This simple, direct form of visual communication is built around a photomontage of a hand with a telephone superimposed over a stylized map of Europe, on which the ear-piece is connected to major European cities by red lines.
