CHARLES LOUPOT (1892-1962) COL VAN HEUSEN. 1928.

Condition A-: restoration along repaired tears and creases in margins, some into image.
This is one of the most elegant, Cubist-style designs that Loupot created. It belongs to a small group of his posters (including O'Cap, Mira and Twinning) that was printed with incredibly rich inking. Here, the deep blues and black mingle to build the shape of the central figure. From the darkness of this design emerge two pristine touches of white, the collar of the shirt and the elegant man's monocle, which together, cleverly, make the Van Heusen logo. Even the dancing typography is unique in Loupot's work. "Loupot succeeded once again in liberating himself from the exact forms to construct something powerfully suggestive" (Reclame p. 84). rare. We could find only one other copy at auction, in 2008. Loupot p. 73, Loupot / Musee de l'Affiche no. 45, Reina Sofia p. 120, Weill p. 207, Reclame 56.
