CHARLES LOUPOT (1892-1962) GRAND PRIX SUISSE. 1924.
49x34 1/2 inches. Sonor, Geneva.
Condition B+: restoration at edges; restoration and overpainting in corners; expertly replaced right margin; restoration in corners and margins; repaired tears in image. Framed.
This is an unusual poster in Loupot's ouvre, with the perspective oriented from both left to right, and top to bottom. Placing the viewer at ground level, he creates a very dynamic image of the car and the motorcycle racing at full speed. Zagrodski suggests that Loupot may only have done sketches for this poster and not actually been involved in its production. Certainly it seems that Loupot had nothing to do with the lettering. However, as far as the drawing is concerned, Loupot would never let his signature appear unless he supervised the printing, otherwise the poster would have been signed "d'apres Loupot." It is a spectacular racing poster as well as being a very scarce image. Loupot 53.
