CHARLES LOUPOT (1892-1962) STOP-FIRE. 1930.
471/4x31 inches. Les Belles Affiches, Paris.
Condition A.
In 1925 Loupot designed his first poster for the fire extinguisher Stop-Fire. Small and compact, the extinguisher was meant to be used in cars and Loupot's early image, decoratively depicts a fashionable female driver holding the extinguisher in one hand and an allegorical candle snuffer in the other. In 1930 Loupot was commissioned to do a second poster for the company, and for this campaign he treated the same subject in a much more powerful way. Here, with no ornamentation, a large, stylized hand is gripping the candle snuffer which will clearly smother the fire with no trouble at all . As usual, the letters are hand drawn and the lithograph is of high artistic standard. Although not signed, the poster does bear the monograph "LBA", which are the initials of Les Belles Affiches, the advertising company for whom Loupot was Art Director. Loupot p. 82.
