CHARLES MOULIN
(Lille 1869-1960 Isernia)
Collection of approximately 70 drawings.

Including watercolor, gouache, pen and ink, chalk and pencil on paper. Most with the artist's ink stamp, recto (not in Lugt). Various sizes and conditions.

Moulin studied in Paris during the early 1890s and became friends with Henri Matisse and Georges Rouault. He won the Pris de Rome in 1896 and remained in Italy for a year, returning for regular visits more than a decade later following World War I. He traveled to the United States with his friend, the Peruvian artist, Carlos Baca-Flor Soberón, during the mid-1920s. Moulin settled in Molise, in the Abruzzo region of southern Italy, where he led a solitary existence, living for long periods in a natural house he constructed himself with stones and wood on the slopes on Monte Marrone.
