Turzak attended the Art Institute of Chicago while working as a freelancer. He excelled in creating woodcut prints and taught the medium at the Academy of Fine Arts. After returning from his studies in Europe, Turzak was employed by the WPA Federal Arts Project in Chicago, where his prints depicted the city's perseverance and strength in the face of hardship and loss of faith.
