Born in The Netherlands, Verschuuren was an illustrator, cartoonist and part-time painter. He is credited with having designed over 100 posters before he moved his family to the United States in 1922. In New York City, he contributed many illustrations to the Brooklyn Eagle's Sunday Magazine through 1933. He also designed posters for the WPA and briefly worked for the Walt Disney Company. By the time he arrived in America, his Art Deco style was well-formed, yet even in his earlier posters, one gets the same excellent sense of design, composition and flair. This poster is for the printer for whom Verschuuren did all of his design work. Modern Dutch 43.
