number 134 of 325 copies printed at the riverside press for Houghton Mifflin. Written to celebrate the nuptials of Richard II and Anne of Bohemia. His inspiration was the ancient popular belief that on Saint Valentine's day all the fowls of the air convene for mating. The text of this printing is that of the edition of Chaucer in the British Poets, based on the reading of manuscript Gf. 4.27, Cambridge University Library.
