The dedicatee, Charles Erskine Scott Wood (1852-1944), was an activist, attorney and author based in Portland, Oregon. Wood was close friends with Hassam for many years, as well as other important literary and artistic figures of the time such as John Steinbeck and Ansel Adams. Cortissoz/Clayton 21.
