". . . I started writing poetry when I was about 13 or 14 & occasionally got a poem accepted for a small sum by The Poetry Magazine.
"Tried my hand at writing stories and detective books later & finally got a book accepted in about 1921 after something like 30 or 40 rejections. It never occurred to me that I should ever become a professional author!"
