". . . The case to which you refer has engaged my personal attention, & I have done my best to come to a fair & unprejudiced opinion about it. Having done that I am quite easy in my mind. "As you take an interest in the subject, I send you for your personal perusal alone, a copy of the commissioner's judgment with wh[ich] I entirely concur. Please send it back to me after you have read it." The judgment mentioned in this letter probably refers to that of the commissioner appointed to investigate the dismissal--in January of 1910--of an inspector from the London Metropolitan Police Force: John Syme. When Syme and other members of the police community claimed an injustice had been done, Churchill declined to submit to the House of Commons the full report of the investigation.
