Silver print, the image measuring 13⅝x10⅜ inches (34.6x26.4 cm.), the mount 16⅞x13 inches (42.9x33 cm.), with Laughlin's signature in pencil and a typed label on mount recto, and his copyright stamp, with the print notation "5," and additional printing notations in pencil, on mount verso.

Begun in 1939, this picture is part of the first group of pictures in which the photographer tried to deal with people - in this instance, the people rejected by our society. A special background was selected for each person in this series - with the intention of making the background work not only in terms of design, but also in reference to social situation.
