CLAUDE GELLÉE, LE LORRAIN
Le Pont de Bois (Rebecca et Eliezer).

Etching, circa 1638-41. 130x194 mm; 5 1/4x7 3/4 inches, narrow to thread margins. Fourth state (C) (of 7). Paschal Lamb in a circle with the letter A watermark (Mannocci 19). A brilliant, richly-inked and early impression of this scarce etching with all the different tones and details distinct and with little to no sign of wear.

This etching is likely based on the similarly composed oil painting, Landscape with Rebecca Taking Leave of her Father, that Claude made for Cardinal Angelo Giori, who was among the artist's most important patrons during his early career, in Rome around 1640-41. The oil painting is now in the National Museum, Stockholm. Mannocci 38.
