From L'Album de 20 lithographies d'apres les tableaux de Claude Monet. A very good impression of this scarce lithograph, with strong contrasts.
Monet likely acted on the advice of Edgar Degas, who had collaborated with Thornley on a suite of lithographs after his drawings (see Reed/Shapiro p. luii and lot 209) during the late 1880s, when he decided to create the current work.
