CLAUDE MONET and GEORGE W THORNLEY
Tempête à Belle-Île.

Lithograph printed in blue on off-white Chine appliqué on cream wove paper, circa 1908. 203x242 mm; 8x9 5/8 inches, full margins. Edition of 25. Signed by both Monet and Thornley in pencil, lower margin. Printed by Belfond, Paris, with the blind stamp lower left. Published by Goupil, Paris. From L'Album de 20 lithographies d'apres les tableaux de Claude Monet. A very good impression of this scarce lithograph, with strong contrasts.

Monet likely acted on the advice of Edgar Degas, who had collaborated with Thornley on a suite of lithographs after his drawings (see Reed/Shapiro p. luii and lot 209) during the late 1880s, when he decided to create the current work.
