Additional Details

"Our mutual friend Mr. Rochester has communicated to me your wish that I would give you a private letter to Bolivar. It would give me great pleasure to feel that I could, with propriety, comply with it; but the official station which I hold imposes some restraints which I am obliged to observe; and moreover having no personal acquaintance with Genl Bolivar, I am not sure that it would be proper to address him. You have my hearty wishes for the success of your work, and I hope that its own merits will make the proper impression, without the aid of any letter of mine . . ."
