McCann, sending thanks for a box of cigars, expressing his lack of aptitude for hunting deer, and hoping that incorrect newspaper reports would be corrected concerning the death of his personal physician. 3 1/2 pages, 8vo, written on a single folded sheet; moderate soiling to terminal page (dark vertical fold through signature). Buffalo, 15 August 1883

". . . I shall . . . have many a cheerful smoke in the woods with thoughts of good friends left behind in the haunts of civilization.
"I cannot promise to find you any venison . . . . You see I have not the utmost confidence in the prevalence of deer nor in my ability to kill them.
"I wish the mistake that has been made in the papers to the effect that Dr. [Jacob Simmons] Mosher was one of my party might be corrected. He was my friend and I loved him and am much afflicted by his sudden death; . . ."
Jacob Simmons Mosher (1834-1883), Cleveland's personal physician while Governor, died of heart failure in his home on August 13.
