Known as both a painter and jazz musician, Clifford Jackson began his painting career in Scandinavia in the late 1950s and 1960s. His abstract paintings evoke the spirit of his jazz music. Jackson studied at the Art Students League and the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture before being awarded a John Hay Whitney fellowship in 1957. The artist moved to Stockholm, where he studied at the Royal Academy of Art. Today, his paintings are found in the collections of the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Sundsvall Museum, Sweden, and the Studio Museum in Harlem.
