This portait by Chicago artist and illustrator Clifford Lee appears to be of saxophonist Johnny Hodges. An artist who first worked in a social realist style in the 1950s and 60s, Clifford Lee painted portraits of jazz figures in the 1970s. Lee is included in Theresa Dickson Cederholm's and Lynn Moody Igoe's listing of African-American artists, the 1974 Ebony Handbook and Falk's Who's Who in American Art.
