Additional Details

". . . Not having received any Accounts Whatever from Major General Prevost since his Letter of the 16th April, I have to lament that I can only enclose . . . Copies of Reports & Intelligence lately received from Georgia; but the Commodore is so good to say he will send . . . Extracts of Letters he has just received from Captain Henry, who Commands His Majesty's Ships in the Savannah River."
In December of 1778, the British captured Savannah, GA. The French and American forces combined to retake the city by laying seige to it in September of the following year. The siege ended with a major Franco-American assault, which failed after the French and Americans suffered heavy losses. Savannah was not regained until 1782.
