CLUADE MONET AND GEORGE W. THORNLEY
Bateaux de Pêche, Etretat.

Lithograph printed in reddish brown on off-white India appliqué on cream wove paper, circa 1908. 185x255 mm; 71/4x101/8 inches, wide margins. Edition of 25. Signed by both Monet and Thornley in pencil, lower margin. Printed by Belfond, Paris, with the blind stamp lower right. Several repaired edge tears, well outside the image. A very good impression.

Monet likely acted on the advice of Edgar Degas, who had collaborated with Thornley on a suite of lithographs after his drawings (see Reed/Shapiro 25b) during the late 1880s, when he decided to create the current work.
