Variant of Colton''s map of 1854, without insets and portions of Texas and Utah. Map is dated twice as 1856 on the image, but the copyright notice is dated 1855. On other issues Kansas is spelled with an "s", while on this variant it is spelled with a "z." A much smaller version with a "z" reading was published in Colton''s 1855 edition of Atlas of the World. We find no copies of this variant recorded or offered for sale.
