This is Colton's "Western Tourist and Emigrant's Guide" which during its last 2 years of publication was issued both under that name and as "Colton's Traveler and Tourist's Guide-Book". Actually, the copy here still carries the former title on the front cover, with the latter title only on the title page. The Guide was first issued in 1839 and J. Calvin Smith's name was dropped from the title page, but not map, in 1843. Compared with the first 1839 edition of the map, Minnesota has been carved out of Iowa and numerous new counties appear throughout the states and territories. Map measures 535x630 mm.
