Conrad," to an unnamed bookseller ("Dear Sir"), reporting that signed copies of Lord Jim and Typhoon are on their way and discussing photographs of the author. 2 pages, oblong 8vo, written on the recto and verso of a single sheet, "Capel House" stationery; tipped at left edge to a larger sheet, soiling to vertical fold affecting text, faint scattered foxing. "The books are going by tonight's post, a copy of Lord Jim containing a most repulsive photograph of the author--but one can't stop that sort of thing--The other is an Am[erican] copy of the blue leather edition of Typhoon. You'll find inside the latest photograph of myself--which tells its own tale, tho' I don't think it can convey any information to the enemy. Perhaps if pasted on the fly-leaf, it may help to fetch a few pence more for the copy of Typhoon. but if you don't think so . . . post it back to me as there are only 3 more copies in existence, of which one reposes in the pocket-book of a young man at the front and the other two are in this house belonging to my wife and small boy. I've signed the books as requested."
