Constantin "Kostia" Terechkovitch (1902-1978) was a Russian artist, theatrical designer and poet who came to notoriety after moving to Paris in 1920 to study art at the Académie de la Frande Chaumière. He joined the community of other Russian émigré artists including Moïse Kisling, Chaim Soutine and Marc Chagall (see lot 482-505). Terechkovitch co-founded the informal artist group known as "Painters of the Poetic Reality" who looked to nature as inspiration and focused on the lyrical and intuitive use of color.

During his artistic career, he exhibited at major shows including the Salon d'Automne. He enlisted in the Foreign Legion during World War II and after the war traveled extensively throughout Europe and to New York. In his late career, Terechkovitch favored sporting scenes and horse racing imagery over portraits, landscapes and nature. After finding success as an artist, he was elected a knight in the Légion d'Honneur in 1951.
