CORNELIS DUSART
The Cobbler.

Etching, circa 1695. 254x180 mm; 10x71/8 inches, small to thread margins. Fourth state (of 4). Letters watermark. A good, dark impression.

Like Bega (see lot 40), Dusart (1660-1704) was a student of Adriaen van Ostade (see lot 78) and worked in Haarlem, just west of Amsterdam. One of the late specialists in the Dutch genre style typical of Ostade's and Rembrandt's work, Dusart is indebted to them but developed a showy style with stronger, more stereotypical caricatures of peasants. Bartsch 14; Hollstein 14.
