OVER TWO HUNDRED SKETCHES CRUIKSHANK, GEORGE. Over 200 drawings in ink or pencil, 6 Signed, small fragmentary sketches, mostly showing caricatured heads or figures, including some studies for illustrations, drawn in margins or on versos of over 100 notes to him, unsigned holograph retained drafts of letters to others, envelopes, or scraps of paper, each hinged to recto album page, one to a page. With an ALS, an ANS, and a portion of an ALS, each hinged to a page in the album. The album, 4to, full morocco by Sangorski & Sutcliffe with gilt lettering to spine and raised bands, minor rubbing to edges, slightly bowed; minor toning and dampstains at extreme edges of free endpapers. The drawings include designs for a title-page, a receipt form, and broadsides, as well as sketches of architecture, landscapes, men, women, and animals.

Cruikshank," to publisher William Blackwood, sending an advertisement for inclusion in his magazine announcing the publication of a set of prints of his drawings [not present], and asking whether he might send some prints for Blackwood to sell. 1 page, 4to, with integral address leaf. London, 9 April 1827 ANS, "Geo. Cruikshank," to Cannon Ellison, explaining that he had already sent acceptance of his invitation, with two ink sketches of heads. 1 page, 8vo. Np, nd Portion of an ALS, "Geo. Cruikshank," to an unknown recipient, concerning a review in the Standard, with sketch of a man's head smoking a pipe, and a holograph postscript: "Amongst the sacrifices, consider that I have sacrificed a New coat to'The Tower'." 1 page, 5x7 inches; upper half torn away.
