Additional Details

A rare print depicting the famous Shakespearean actor Edmund Kean as Richard III. A diorama of Drury Lane weighs upon his hunched shoulders while the broadsword he leans upon is labeled "A KEEN Supporter", all satirizing the theatre's dependency on its popular new star. His debut at the theatre occurred in January of the same year this print was published. "One of the finest of George Cruikshank's caricatures" (Albert Cohn, George Cruikshank, A Catalog Raisonne 2029). BM Satires 12325.
