Additional Details

'Died at Westport, Massachusetts, on the 7th day instant, Paul Cuffe, a very respectable man of colour, in the 59th year of his age. A descendant of Africa, he overcame by native strength of mind, and firm adherence to principle, the prejudice with which her descendants are too generally viewed.' An obituary full of praise for Cuffe, citing his three voyages to Sierra Leone and his mercantile successes. Cuffe was half Wampanoag, a Quaker and supporter of colonization in Sierra Leone.
