Depicts bust portrait of Cuffee with a background of a sailing ship and a representation of the shores of America and Sierra Leone, within an unbroken octagonal border; paper slightly and evenly toned, with a few pale dots. Paul Cuffee (1759-1817) sea captain, merchant and activist was deeply involved in the Sierra Leone movement of the late 18th-early 19th century. The present silhouette commemorated his first voyage to Sierra Leone, and appeared in The Non-Slaveholder for 1851.
