Third edition of the first volume, first edition of the second. inscribed and signed by cushing to the neurosurgeon Sir Geoffrey Jefferson (1886-1961): "Introducing Geoffrey Jefferson to a fellow townsman Harvey Cushing June 1927." Prior to visiting Manchester to attend a meeting of the Society of British Neurological Surgeons, Cushing had written to Jefferson expressing his desire to visit the home of Thomas Percival (1740-1804, best-known for his 1794 book on medical ethics), whom Jefferson proceeded look up in the local phone book.
