first edition of Cushing's Macewen Memorial Lecture delivered at the University of Glasgow on 22 June 1927, "a landmark in the history of neurosurgery, since it is the first account of the use of electrosurgical methods in the removal of brain tumors. He chose for consideration meningiomas, namely, those which arise in the region of the olfactory groove. The tumors in this area tend to be large and vascular and before the advent of electrosurgery Cushing had had indifferent success and many fatalities in attempting to remove them"--Fulton, Harvey Cushing, pages 548-49.
