In full: 'I thought I would write you a few lines to see if you had arrived at your place of destination yet. We are all well as usual. Pap has not got home yet but expect him every-day. We expect [brother] Tom home every day. I am going to school regular now and wish I was through so I could come down there with you. I know I would enjoy my self very much. I hope Anna is contented. Tell her all her folks are well I wish Libbie [George's wife, Elizabeth] was hear [sic] to help me write my composition. I have got to have one Friday. Mr. Jones (the man that fixed your boat) said it would cost $10 and I gave him the $5.00 you left me and he said that he wanted you to send it to me as soon as you could. We would all like to see you very much it is very lonesome since you left. I would like very much to make you a visit next summer but I suppose there is no chance of it. How does [sic] your dogs get long. I suppose you have gone a hunting before this time. Tell Eliza [Elizabeth?] we would all like to see you. You must excuse all mistakes and when you write please to correct me. If you see me don there before you long you need not be surprised for I have thought some of going down with Tom but I have not packed my trunk yet. We want you to come up some evening and bring your work along and take tea with us. No more. Write soon but remains your sincere brother….' After signing, Boston adds a postscript: 'Love to all Mother send her love to Eliza. Eugene Gale wanted me to ask you if you would give him a place down there and to tell me when you answered this letter.'
