Cutler (1888-1947) succeeded Cushing as Moseley Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School in 1932. Known for his innovations in cardiac procedures, Cutler performed the first successful operation for mitral valve stenosis. Laid in is a photograph of Elliott Cutler and Harvey Cushing in Paris, 1915 in the uniform of The American Friends Ambulance Service. See Fulton, Harvey Cushing, page 387.
