Additional Details

This wonderful schoolboy manuscript map features many unusual and noteworthy configurations on the western frontier. Illinois Territory stretches far northward between the Mississippi and above the western tip of Lake Superior. Michigan Territory totally surrounds Lake Michigan. Missouri and Arkansas are unnamed and the area bears the appellation: "New Iberia." The panhandle of Florida extends to the Mississippi delta, and is labeled "W & E Floridas" with no boundary separating the two. The author probably based his cartography on a map that was at least 10 years old in 1817. Robert Wilkinson's maps are a possibility.
