C.V. TESTI (DATES UNKNOWN) TRIPOLI. 1934.
26 1/2x18 1/2 inches, 67x47 cm. A. Marzi, Rome.

Libya became an Italian colony in 1911, when Italy defeated the Ottoman Empire in the Italo-Turkish War. Here, advertising in German for an exhibition on Tripoli, Testi depicts the head of an African statue. His style is a mixture of cubism and the gigantic, classical imagery that was part of Mussolini's Fascist aesthetic. The result is a bold design with a dynamic layout.
