[Leiden : Printed [by William Brewster], in the yeare 1618.

First edition, folio, woodcut bear device to title page; terminal errata leaf present; bound in full contemporary or near-contemporary parchment over boards, later endleaves, inner joints strengthened some time ago; some minor stains, a few closed tears to contents; housed in a custom buckram slipcase with morocco trim, sold by Rostenberg & Stern, with their original description inserted, 11 3/8 x 7 1/8 in.

The exiled English Puritans who took up residence in Holland published literature in support of their separatist movement between 1616 and 1619, stopping only because the Dutch government shut them down. As they prepared to depart Leiden for the Plymouth colony in Massachusetts, they also had the energy and motivation to run what is now called the Pilgrim Press. In the present work, Cartwright exhaustively reviews the Catholic or Rheims Bible translation, picking it apart for its "manifest impieties."
