First illustrated edition in English, folio, illustrated with full-page engraved frontispiece and eight full-page plates each with two images; translation by John Phillips (Milton's nephew); bound in full contemporary blind-tooled speckled calf with gilt-tooled spine and red morocco label, neatly rebacked; text leaves never washed or trimmed; ex libris Herbert Watney, M.D., with bookplate, a few old ink inscriptions on ffep, initials to title; closed tears on approximately seven leaves (no loss, some repaired); O2 stained, some paper flaws to top corners with losses to blank margins; occasional minor spotting & stains; minor worming to the inner top gutter from about page 547; 12 5/8 x 7 3/4 in.
