Chronicles the changing nature of the slave trade in Western Africa. The trade had greatly diminished during the early years of the 19th century, but took a dramatic rise soon after the articles of peace were signed ending the War of 1812. The French government had tracked this problem and was attempting to find a way to stop the trade in slaves.
