Charles VII, Holy Roman Emperor (1697-1745)
Vollständiges Diarium.

Frankfurt: Johann David Jung, 1742-1743.

Three parts in one folio volume, title pages printed in red and black, engraved frontispiece, illustrated with two folding diagrams and thirty-seven engravings (of which eighteen are folding or double page); some tears to some folding plates, some minor restoration, generally good; bound in full contemporary parchment over boards; 13 1/2 x 8 in.

This festival book documents the many celebrations and displays that took place on the election of Charles VII. The huge detailed plates depicting the parade retinues include every marcher, carriage and horse, all in full regalia. A few days after his coronation, Charles VII was forced to flee to Munich, as his territories were overrun by the Austrians. He may not have had the most successful reign, but his ability to host massive parties is undeniable.
