New York: N.G. Slater Corp., 1972.

Political campaign poster, printed in black and red on heavy cardstock with a photographic image of Chishol at the center, very nicely preserved, 14½ x 11½ in.

Our first Black woman to serve in Congress, representative Chisholm served the people of her home district in Bedford-Stuyvestant, Brooklyn from 1969 through 1983. While announcing her candidacy for the Presidential race, she made the following statement. "I am not the candidate of Black America, although I am Black and proud. I am not the candidate of the women's movement of this country, although I am a woman and equally proud of that. I am the candidate of the people and my presence before you symbolizes a new era in American political history."
