Manuscript Notebook of a Maryland Physician & Apothecary.

Baltimore, MD: circa 1824-1830.

Octavo format manuscript on laid paper comprising fifty-three numbered and inscribed pages with medical treatments classed according to Eberle, with a table of contents, viz., emetics, cathartics, antacids, tonics, astringents, narcotics, antispasmodics, stimulants, diuretics, expectorants, abortives, and others, each category listing a number of different pharmaceutical formulas and occupying the first fifty-eight pages, followed by four pages on the anatomy of the muscles, and a few pages with miscellaneous notes of expenses, including a trip to New Orleans; some pages at the beginning cut away likely before Dr. Coskery used the book; bound in limp leather-covered boards, 6 1/4 x 3 3/4 in.

Coskery graduated M.D. from the University of Maryland in 1827 and passed away in October of 1830 in Baltimore. As of 1829, he is listed in the Baltimore City Directory with an apothecary shop west of Centre Market Space, and doctor's office west of Calvert Street.
