First edition, first printing, octavo; partially unopened in original buckram-backed purple paper boards, printed spine label; with the original unclipped dust jacket printed in black and red (large section of loss to upper edge of jacket, significant tape reinforcements at verso, particularly to the toned spine panel); 8 1/4 x 6 1/4 in.

e.e. cumming's first collection of poetry and second book overall includes some of his most notable poems, such as "Thy fingers make early flowers," "All in green went my love riding," and his longest, "Puella Mea." The original manuscript for Tulips and Chimneys contained 152 poems, of which only 86 appear here, the remainder were later published in the 1925 XLI Poems.
