The large figures are "Juif tenant le Mezuzoth" and "Juif en habit de priereur"; the smaller figures are "Ancien tombeau de Rachel, selon J. Nicolai" and "Tombeau de Rachel tel qu'on le voit a present selon Mr. Le Brun et autres voyageurs."
Daguerre (1787-1851) started in life as an artist and set designer, working at the Paris Opera and then opening his Diorama while working on the development of the first photographic process, on which his fame rests. examples of his art work are exceedingly rare.
